All that is right

Criminology course at the youth detention centre Berlin-Brandenburg

Project description

In August 2019, the course “Alles was Recht ist” (Modular Competence Training) started at the youth detention centre Berlin-Brandenburg. With a group of six to ten young people, the lecturer leads a discussion on legal and criminological topics in a 90-minute course. Among other things, insights are provided into the structure of criminal proceedings and the special features of juvenile criminal law, and the differences between juvenile punishment and juvenile detention are explained. After discussing the high recidivism rates among juveniles, the detainees discuss their future prospects and anxieties. In the process, findings from “desistance research” - which investigates the reasons for breaking off criminal behaviour - are used as food for thought and inspiration for the participants.

Tatort Zukunft receives financial support for the course from the Gustav Radbruch Foundation.
